Book Reviews

After by Samantha Gregory

I’m a sucker for conspiracy theories and my favorite young adult genre is dystopian slash science fiction, therefore I was intrigued from the start. Seventeen-year-old Jenna lives in Southern Manhattan (“South City”). It’s been twenty years since a deadly virus swept through America which is now considered a third world country. In fact, Canada and South America have closed their borders. America is now run by The New Alliance, a totalitarian government. Jenna’s fairly typical teenage life (she has a crush on her neighbor Ross and has a frenemy named Lana down the hall). However, after The New Alliance bursts through the window of her apartment, takes her hostage, and reveals that her father is still alive, her life is flipped upside down.
