Kem, Keep Calm and Answer These Twenty-Five Questions

Do you consider yourself a logophile? If so, have you always been?

I am a complete lover of words.  It all started with Scrabble!  My mother, brother, and I played for hours on end.

What is your favorite color?

Brown or red, depends on if it is a dress or an outfit.

Where were you born? Where did you grow up?

I was born in Amberg, Germany.  My father was in the military.  We made it to the base hospital parking lot.  But I made my debut in the back of my parents VW bug.  I guess I hated hospitals.  I grew up in St. Louis, Missouri.

What is your favorite sports team?

St. Louis Cardinals.

Who is your favorite author?

My favorite authors come in spurts.  Right now I am on a James Patterson kick.

What is your favorite book?

Any book in the women’s murder club series.

What do you do when you are not writing?

I run a fitness studio and I teach, EVERYTHING.

Do you have a day job as well?

Do you have any advice for aspiring authors?

Keep your day job.

Is being a writer a curse or a gift?

Being a writer is a gift.  God using words to change lives.

Where do you write?

In my bedroom, coffee shops, classrooms, at work, and in my car (voice recorder.)

Do you prefer silence or some noise while you write?

I prefer silence for writing and noise for editing.

What do you typically drink while writing?

I won’t drink while I write but I will participate in my favorite pastime, eating ice!

What challenges have you had in regards to your writing life?

Time!  I have so much to do each day that there never seems to be enough time to sit and write.

When did you first start and when did you finish your book?

I started my book in 2009 before my youngest daughter was born.  I abandoned it in 2010 when I quit teaching full-time.  I started again in December 2013 and finished it in March 2014.

If your book is made into a movie, which actors/actresses do you envision playing the parts?

Sharay-Kimberly Elise

Brian-Morris Chestnut

Sheila-Taraji Henson

Michael-Michael Ealy

What does your protagonist think of you? Would he/she want to hang out with you?

Sharay and I could talk for days on end.  She and I could share experiences and chill.

How do you market your book? What avenues work best?

I market my book to my facebook friends, family, email list, and K.I.S.S. Fitness Studio members.  When it comes to marketing every avenue should be explored because you never know when your book will end up in the right hands.

What has been the toughest criticism so far?

No one has said they disliked the book and no one has said, “Oh this part was confusing.”  Those were my two biggest fears.  The main criticism I faced were typos.

What has been the best compliment?

My father loved my book and passed it on to his big sister.  On Memorial Day he talked about the book all during dinner and wouldn’t let anyone change the subject.

Is anything in your book based on real life experiences or purely all imagination?

My book is based upon real life experiences with a lot of imagination to make the plot tie in together.

How did you come up with the title?

It’s my favorite Jamie Foxx song and I think every woman strives to have her own.

Will there be a sequel?

People are asking for a sequel but right now I feel there are more stories to tell.  So, I’ll tell those first.

What project are you working on now?

I have 3 projects going right now

1.)    I’m working on a dvd for married women based upon my book Sexy By the Weekend.  This dvd is the dance for your man series.

2.)    I am working on a second fiction novel. This one is keeping me up at night.  The story line is so compelling. The characters appear strong to those around them but they find themselves in a challenging situation where they have to learn draw from the strength of God. They have to use the authority given to Christians by God to overcome the enemy and get out of a precarious situation.

3.)    I am putting together workshops and conferences for people who want to become authors.

What question did I leave out that you’d like to answer?

Both men and women should read my book because there is a golden nugget that everyone who reads it can identify with and learn from.  The topics covered in the book are so relevant to the times we live in today and even in society, the way it exists now, God still hears and answers prayers.

Please fill in the blank: Keep Calm and seek God.
