Interview with Gal Rochwerger, Author of Jake Harelson and the War for Hope



Jake is a regular 13 year old kid in almost all aspects. Right, he is a bit of a solitaire and never met his parents. But nothing prepared him to the events that are awaiting him. One day Jake starts to experience strange visions and hear voices that notify him that he is chartered with the mission to save the world. Jake, without knowing, gets into the biggest adventure of his life, and needs to deal with several people that run after him, with policemen that blame him on crimes that he has not committed, and mostly various bizarre super natural creatures that chase after him. The only thing that keeps him going is the belief and hope that at the end the good will win for good.

The author Gal Rochwerger lives in Zichron Yaakov, Israel. This is his first book and was originally published in Hebrew in 2011 when he was 14 years old.





Gal was born in 1997 in Haifa, Israel. As Jake, the hero of his first book, he grew up in Zichron Yaakov, a small town south of Haifa. As any kid his age, he had various passions, but books have always been at the top of his list. Ever since he was very young he went around with a bag of books. Today, in addition to reading and writing, he plays the drums, loves rock music and basketball. His favorite book is “The Shadow of the Wind” by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. He also enjoyed very much the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan. His first book, “Jake Harelson and the War for Hope”, was first published in Hebrew in 2011 when he was 14 year old.

  1. What is your favorite color?    Yellow
  2. Where were you born? Where did you grow up ? I was born in Haifa, Israel. I now live in Zichron Yaakov. I am 16 years old. I guess I can be considered as still growing up?
  3. What is your favorite football team? My  favorite sports is basketball. and My favorite team is Maccabi Tel Aviv
  4. Who is your favorite author? Carlos Luis Zafon
  5. What is your favorite book? Shadows of the Wind
  6. What do you do when you are not writing? I go to school. I meet my friends.
  7. Do you have a day job as well? I go to high school.
  8. Where do you write? In my dad’s room
  9. Do you prefer silence or some noise while you write? I like to write while I listen to music
  10. What do you typically drink while writing? Fuse Tea
  11. When did you first start and when did you finish your book? I started to write my book when I was thirteen and finished when I was fourteen
  12. What does your protagonist think of you? Would he/she want to hang out with you? He would like to hang out with me for sure.
  13. What has been the best compliment? I got two very good book reviews in Amazon by Kindle e-book reviewers and I got a very promising article in local newspaper. I also sold over 250 printed copies in Israel. several kids at school are waiting for the sequel to be written.
  14. Is anything in your book based on real life experiences or purely all imagination? The book is based on my real-life experience at school and in northern Israel.
  15. Will there be a sequel? Yes
