Mord, Keep Calm and Answer These 21  Questions

  1. What is your favorite color?  Any “color” an animal is brave enough to display. Shades of blue draw my eye more often,  though
  2. Where were you born?       A hospital.  Most likely between my mothers legs….
  3. Where did you grow up? I have not done so
  4. What is your favorite football team? The Golden Eagles Marching Band… Oh , I prefer music to sports but I go to high school games.
  5. Who are your favorite authors?  Steven Brust, HG Wells, HP Lovecraft, Robert E Howard, Glen Cook
  6. What is your favorite book?  Too many to list but the Vlad Taltos series, the Harry Potter Series, the original Conan books, and the Black Company series are all favorites that I keep around in paperback instead of trading them in.
  7. What do you do when you are not writing? Nap and try to be the best Dad, husband, son, brother, and friend I can be.
  8. Do you have a day job as well? Yes
  9. Do you have any advice for aspiring authors? It’s cliche… But keep writing
  10. Is being a writer a curse or a gift? Yes it is.
  11. Do you prefer silence or some noise while you write? I prefer background noise when doing first drafts. The dumber the tv show, the more obnoxious the video game track that the teenagers have on the Xbox, the better!
  12. What do you typically drink while writing? Dark Roast with Coldstone sweet creamer
  13. If your book is made into a movie, which actors/actresses do you envision playing the parts? Rigs could be played by Emma Stone. Joel Edgerton could be Slicer (if Peter Jackson helps with the extreme height… )
  14. What does your protagonist think of you? Would he/she want to hang out with you? I would be afraid to even try. She would squash me like a bug.
  15. What has been the toughest criticism so far? Editors have never ending criticisms. Just when you think the fifth rewrite is final they give 2 arc flaws, and 39 typos… Those get fixed and there are four more rounds to go.
  16. What has been the best compliment? One of my heroes tweeted out a picture of my book next to his.  That was cool. My dad (who has never read my work) called and told me he “tries to read one chapter before work because he has five minutes… And he reads four or five and is late to work because it just has such a good flow. My editor said, “Thats a good book.” Those are all very nice compliments.
  17. How did you come up with the title? The title hit me one night and just felt right. To explain would be a spoiler
  18. Will there be a sequel? Yes
  19. What project are you working on now? I have 2 of 3 fantasy trilogy novels done, 1 is in submissions. I am On 2nd draft of a new novel that ties Victorian England to my “gritty and realistic science fiction.” The first editorial read told me “This is good! Yes, you have to write this! Now leave me be while I read it again.”
  20. Where you really a musician ? Yes. To follow up, yes, it’s possible people might know the band. I am an ASCAP member still, though I’ve retired from writing and performing.  It’s only important because: the bands I have been in liked to insert hidden tracks at the end of the album. I insert hidden short stories for readers that buy the paperback.
  21. Are you really a gamer? Yes. I like Lord of the Rings Online and The Secret World, currently!
