Synopsis: This is not your sweet sparkling vampire story. Old-school vampires have re-surfaced, responsible for brutal murders and more blood than anyone can cope with. In “Tangled Blood Lines”, Cianna Fitzgerald, a young but “retired” crime scene investigator, finds herself back in a world she walked away from years ago. She grew up in twentieth century Pennsylvania countryside knowing she possesses superhuman powers from her “Irish pixie” bloodlines. She had retired after a particularly tough case where the victim was her husband’s twin brother. After her brief respite from murders and homicides, Cianna witnesses a killing where the murderer is a vampire. Her daughter goes missing soon after the killing. Cianna and the love she ahd once pushed out of her life, her estranged husband Declan, travel halfway around the world to try to save their child. As the mystery unravels, she learns that although she is a half-breed, the other half isn’t ”Irish pixie” as she grew up believing – weaving her into a more tangled history and frightening future than she had bargained for.

Excerpt:

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. My nasal passages were swamped with smells of death, rot, mold and a few other things I couldn’t quite identify. I slowly opened my eyes. It was only as the blurry visions came into focus that I was able to see the truly horrible scene.

Blood was everywhere, and I mean everywhere. On the floors, the walls, the chairs, the table, the sink, the stove, the refrigerator and even on the ceiling. There were dead rats, cats, and pieces of animal legs scattered around. There were nooses hanging from the exposed beams and meat hooks as well. Rabbits and squirrels hung from some of them.

“This gives a new meaning to a work-from-home slaughterhouse,” I said to myself.

I pushed the notebook into my kit. There just weren’t any words. I grabbed the camera hanging from my neck and began to focus the lens. I snapped pictures of everything.

In the corner was a small closed door. I made my way to it. With great effort I pulled it open and stepped inside. I wish I hadn’t.

The first thing I noticed was there was much more light in this room than the last. It was so bright, in fact, that it took a few seconds for my eyes to re-focus. When they did, I knew that the extra lighting was for effect.

Deborah, Keep Calm and Answer These Twenty-Four Questions

  1. Do you consider yourself a logophile? If so, have you always been? – Yes I do consider myself one, I love words and what can be done with them, the power they hold and when woven          together words have such an impact.
  2. What is your favorite color? – Favorite color is dark. It used to be hunter green, but with writing vampire stuff, dark colors intrigue me.
  3. Where were you born? Where did you grow up? – I was born in Abington Pa and grew up in Philadelphia PA for the first part of my younger years until moving to the suburbs of Philly.
  4. What is your favorite football team? – My dad and my admin would kill me if I didn’t say the Philadelphia Eagles were my favorite football team – I am more of a hockey fan then football.
  5. Who is your favorite author? – Too many good authors out there to have just one favorite – though growing up VC Andrews was my favorite followed by Nora Roberts.
  6. What is your favorite book? – I read so much that there isn’t simply one favorite that stands out above the rest.
  7. What do you do when you are not writing? – Usually arguing with my characters, or doing something with my husband, working on jobs from our Demolition Company or bartending, or simply napping. If I can, I’m down at Seaside Heights NJ as much as I can be.
  8. Do you have a day job as well? – Yes I do have a day job – and a night job. My husband and I own and operate a demolition business, also install ceramic tile and I bartend 3 nights a week.
  9. Do you have any advice for aspiring authors? – Keep writing!!! Listen to your characters, keep writing. Don’t worry about making it perfect just get it written! Perfection comes later.
  10. Is being a writer a curse or a gift? – Definitely a gift!
  11. Where do you write? – I write wherever I am and the muse dictates I need ot get something written down, or the characters won’t leave me alone until I have written down what is needed to be done.
  12. Do you prefer silence or some noise while you write? – Noise. I work better when there is background noise. Mostly music.
  13. What do you typically drink while writing? – Nope, I do not drink when writing. I zone out and do nothing but write.
  14. What challenges have you had in regards to your writing life? – Biggest challenge of my writing life is marketing.
  15. When did you first start and when did you finish your book? – I started TBL in January of 2009 and it was published June of 2011.
  16. If your book is made into a movie, which actors/actresses do you envision playing the parts? – I never gave it any thought as to which actor/actress – I think that should be answered by who the fans want to see as my characters. As long as they portrayed my characters like I have, it doesn’t make a       difference to me; though I may change my mind later.
  17. How do you market your book? What avenues work best? – I depend on word of mouth and the work that my admin, Amy for my marketing right now. I am trying to learn as much as I can to become a better    marketer, though it takes a lot of time away from my writing time. I also depend on bloggers, interviewers and reviewers to help me spread the word. I’m also open to any suggestions; others might have to help me with marketing. I must admit my husband is a great salesman – he’s always asking people if they’re a reader and telling them his wife is an author with a book out
  18. What has been the toughest criticism so far? – I think my toughest criticism was that someone thought parts of my book jump around. I worked hard to make sure that didn’t happen but everyone is entitled to their opinion. I value opinions but know that I won’t be able to please everyone.
  19. What has been the best compliment? – My best compliment was when my sister was editing for me (she is an English professor for a college) and called me to tell me that she got so caught up in the story she had to go back 10 chapters because she forgot to edit as she was reading. Another editor said the same thing.
  20. Is anything in your book based on real life experiences or purely all imagination? – There are lots of real life experiences in my books. Some based on memories, others based on good times my husband and I share, eve a couple bad times. Some places are real places I have been or have researched. And, of course there is just as much fictional things.
