Write By the Rails Blog Spot- Nancy Kyme!

MemoryLakeI’m Nancy S. Kyme, the author of “Memory Lake; The Forever Friendships of Summer” a 2012 Next Generation Award Winning memoir.  When childhood friends plan to meet at a camp reunion thirty years after their adventures together at summer camp, a fun, inspirational journey begins in which the reader is immersed into summer, youth, and the warmth of meaningful friendships.  Present day challenges and past outdoor adventures are woven into an unforgettable tale of friends overcoming fear and grief through joy and laughter.

Remember when you didn’t need a purse or wallet, when you ran everywhere, laughed at everything, and only worried about making it to dinner on time?  Remember when taking on a dare gave you courage and you spent more time on friendships because you had more time?  When songs and stories take us back in time with an eye toward relearning important lessons, I believe we can find the wisdom and confidence we need to face the fears of growing up, and growing old.

Although the lessons in “Memory Lake” are shown to the reader throughout the novel in story form, rather than told outright, I was asked recently to list some the lessons as preparation for a radio interview I’ll be giving in April.   And so, (drum roll!) for the first time ever on the “Infinite Possibilities Blog Tour” here are the main lessons of summer camp.  I’m sure you have already learned these, dear reader, so please consider them a refresher course:

2)      We won’t have true friends in our lives until we are true to ourselves.

3)      Jealousy springs from a limited sense of blessings and a belief there is not enough good to go around.

4)      We all have been blessed with hidden talents and our task in life is to find them.

5)  Putting on a smile when we least feel like it is a ‘sacrifice of joy’ that will lead to true joy.

6)  Growth happens when we challenge ourselves.  If we only put ourselves into safe situations, we do not grow.

That last one is the reason I’m on “The Infinite Possibilities Blog Tour”.   So, what are you going to do today to challenge yourself?
