Write By the Rails Blog Spot- Katherine Mercurio Gotthardt!

Weaker

Katherine Mercurio Gotthardt is a poetry and prose writer, webpage provider, and my amazing editor!

Kristy, thank you so much for hosting me on your blog!  You are a truly remarkable and talented woman, a real asset to the arts community. Your fiction is compelling and definitely worth reading. Keep up the great work!

Below is a short poem from my collection Weaker Than Water that came out last year during National Poetry Month.  The poem was inspired by an inmate I saw while teaching in the local jail.

Enjoy!

Katherine

I Saw God in the Elevator

I saw God in the elevator–

he looked like Morgan Freeman.
He wore an orange jumpsuit,
destination: cell block three.

I wondered what he was doing there,
and then I thought, of course.
He’s headed for the top floor,
rising toward redemption.
