Keep Calm and Answer These Twenty-Five Questions

  1. Do you consider yourself a logophile? If so, have you always been?  Yes and yes!
  2. What is your favorite color? Oh no!  I can’t decide!  Burgundy?
  3. Where were you born? Where did you grow up?  Born Arlington, MA, grew up Billerica MA
  4. What is your favorite football team?  I don’t do sports.
  5. Who is your favorite author?  Many, many!  Emily Dickinson, Henry David Thoreau, Sheri Tepper, Margaret Atwood, Agatha Christie…
  6. What is your favorite book? Can’t decide, but Walden has influenced me tremendously.
  7. What do you do when you are not writing? Spend time with family, scrap book, paint (rather poorly)
  8. Do you have a day job as well? I do outreach for Rainbow Center in Haymarket.
  9. Do you have any advice for aspiring authors? Be patient with yourself, edit, but don’t fret about rejections.
  10. Is being a writer a curse or a gift?  A gift, absolutely.
  11. Where do you write?  Mostly from home on my PC.
  12. Do you prefer silence or some noise while you write? Silence.
  13. What do you typically drink while writing? Crystal Light, diet soda, coffee, water
  14. What challenges have you had in regards to your writing life? Rejections, book signings no one attends.
  15. When did you first start and when did you finish your book? I drafted my earliest book in 2002. It came out in 2010.  (Furbily-Furld Takes on the World.)
  16. If your book is made into a movie, which actors/actresses do you envision playing the parts? For my novel (Approaching Felonias Park)?  Good question.  No one too famous or cliched, though.
  17. What does your protagonist think of you? Would he/she want to hang out with you? My protagonist thinks I am annoying because I make her consider the larger questions in life, which forces her to make difficult decisions.
  18. How do you market your book? What avenues work best? I go to events, speak about my book, sell on consignment and market online.  You have to mix and match to sell anything.
  19. What has been the toughest criticism so far? My novel has typos. Gaaaah!
  20. What has been the best compliment? My novel is compelling; my Civil War poetry collection (Poems from the Battlefield) is perfect for the classroom.
  21. Is anything in your book based on real life experiences or purely all imagination? My novel focuses on predatory lending and poverty. I’ve been poor.  I’ve experienced predatory lending via student loans.
  22. How did you come up with the title?  My novel: “Felonias” is a play on “felonious” because it’s a crime to have so much poverty in the U.S. which is one of the richest countries in the world.
  23. Will there be a sequel? No, but I anticipate a second edition at some point.
  24. What project are you working on now? I will be writing a story for an anthology.
  25. What question did I leave out that you’d like to answer?  How many books do you have out?  4

The following two tabs change content below.

  1. Sounds like a kindred spirit! Anyone whose favorite color is burgundy is someone worth knowing, in my opinion.

  2. Katherine is a kindred spirit! I love that expression by the way. Katie, did you read the Anne of Green Gables series by L.M. Montgomery growing up? Anne calls her best friend Diana a kindred spirit. I love that term!
